NVLA Online Program Expectations

NVLA’s K-12 distance education programs use a unique combination of live whole group sessions, live small group sessions, and independent practice to enhance student learning. Students have 24/7 access to their Canvas courses and to playbacks of their live whole group sessions, providing flexibility in their day-to-day schedules.

All students, regardless of grade level, are expected to:

    • Actively participate in every class via live whole group and small group sessions and through online activities such as, but not limited to course discussion boards, Canvas assignments, and adaptive online programs.
    • Adhere to curriculum due dates as students may not be able to complete missing assignments once they are locked.
    • Maintain attendance by submitting assignments in every course and attending all live whole group and small group sessions.
    • Maintain 2-way communication (Canvas Inbox, CCSD gmail, Remind, phone) between the student and teacher regarding progress in course.

Below is an overview of each program, please click on the appropriate school heading to be directed to their respective pages for more detailed information.

Elementary students who enroll with NVLA Elementary School will be immediately enrolled within our AM program. Families that are interested in the PM program may express interest on the registration Jot form, and will receive an application when they are available in late May. Both programs provide live whole group and small group sessions with their teachers and independent learning activities that are to be completed with the assistance of their learning coach.

Learning Coach: an adult that is available to the student every day during school hours, whether they are in live sessions or working independently.

Elementary AM Program: School hours are 8:00am - 2:11pm. Students will participate in live whole group instruction throughout the school day on the 3 assigned days with their teacher. Students are then expected to attend prescriptive small group sessions and work independently, with their learning coach, the remaining 2 days of the week.

Elementary PM Program: School hours are 12:10pm - 7:10pm. Students will participate in a mix of live whole group and small group instructional sessions with their teachers from 4:00pm - 7:10pm Monday - Thursday. Students are then expected to work independently, with their learning coach, from 12:10pm - 4:00pm Monday - Thursday and ALL day on Friday. The Elementary PM program will be an application process, and is not guaranteed. Those that express interest on the registration Jot form, will receive an application via email in late May.

High School and Middle School: The school week will be comprised of three whole group instructional days and two small group instructional days according to the school’s published schedule. Students will participate in three live whole group sessions per course, per week. These sessions require a student's online presence and active participation. The expectation is to be working in each course for a minimum of one hour per school day. When not attending a live session, students are required to be independently (asynchronous) working through the modules. Students in need of additional academic support will be invited to attend two live small group sessions per course, per week. These sessions are prescriptive and assigned by the teacher to meet the individual needs of each student.

High School and Middle School Scholar Program: This educational program uses a unique combination of synchronous (live session) and asynchronous (independent) learning. Students have 24/7 access to their Canvas courses and to playbacks of their live sessions, providing flexibility in their day-to-day schedules. The Scholar program will be an application process, and admittance is not guaranteed. Those that express interest on the registration Jot form, will receive an application via email in late May.

All 6th-12th grade students will have a full course load of a minimum six classes.

Some exceptions may apply and can be determined with your counselor.
