NVLA Middle School and High School Families,
My name is Michael Martin, and I am the principal of Nevada Learning Academy at CCSD (NVLA). I hope all of our incoming students are as excited about this upcoming school year as we are at NVLA! Our school’s enrollment has been growing at a very high rate each day since the beginning of July. During the 2020-2021 school year, NVLA had approximately 450 full-time students. As of today, August 6th, we have accepted over 4,200 full-time distance learning students to NVLA, and we continue to accept hundreds of new students daily. We are so happy and proud to accommodate our Clark County community. Please know that all of our Middle School and High School students will be able to access their course schedules on Infinite Campus on Wednesday morning, August 11th. However, our required ‘MS/HS Orientation’ will be available first thing Monday morning, August 9th. This orientation is mandatory, and all students are expected to complete this orientation on Monday and Tuesday, August 9th and 10th.
In order to best meet the needs of our new and diverse group of students, NVLA has added extra instructional time to our weekly schedule for students. Just as before, we will still expect our middle school students to attend two live sessions a week for each of their courses, and high school students will be expected to attend one live session a week for each of their courses. However, we have now added ‘Extra Instructional Time’ for both of our middle school and high school students. This will allow our students an opportunity to join three live sessions a week, per course. Creating additional instructional time will allow our teachers to offer enrichment and differentiated activities that will immensely help our students achieve academic success.
School will begin for all of our NVLA students next Monday, August 9th, at 9:00 am. In the past, NVLA has not had a bell schedule. However, we have now introduced an official bell schedule to help ensure we can provide all of the synchronous (live) learning that our students need. Please see the following Bell Schedule for all middle school and high school students.
… Bell Schedule on the following page.
|Period 1||9:00am – 9:56am*|
|Period 2||10:00am – 10:53am|
|Period 3||10:57am – 11:50am|
|Lunch||11:50am – 12:20pm|
|Period 4||12:24pm – 1:17pm|
|Period 5||1:21pm – 2:14pm|
|Period 6||2:18pm – 3:11pm|
The first two days of the school year, August 9th and August 10th, will be dedicated to our online orientation found on the Canvas platform. On August 9th, we ask that our students complete the following steps:
- Students will log into clever.ccsd.net with their CCSD credentials. Then click on the Canvas icon. If your student has forgotten his or her student login information, please go to stutech.ccsd.net to recover his or her account.
- After logging into the Clever platform, in a different tab, students will need to self enroll in the NVLA Student Orientation Fall 2021 course. Students can self-enroll in the course once you share with this URL: https://ccsd.instructure.com/enroll/3GGHWL. Or sign up at. https://ccsd.instructure.com/register and use the following join code: 3GGHWL
- It is a requirement for all students to complete the orientation before selecting any of their courses. Please ensure your student completes the orientation.
- Please note, a part of our orientation is on the Honorlock system. Students will be required to have a student ID, Government ID (passport), or paper document that shows both the student’s picture and name, to complete this portion of the orientation. However, to help our students that may not have access to the required identification, we are allowing students to complete the orientation without this step if needed. Please know that this step will be a requirement for all students as the school year progresses. A picture day will be scheduled in the near future to ensure all students have an ID.
In order to successfully complete the orientation, all students will need access to a computer with a webcam. All of our NVLA students are eligible for a Chromebook, which includes a webcam and microphone. However, if our students wish to use their own equipment, that is acceptable. If a student is still in need of a Chromebook, please complete this form: https://form.jotform.com/211896016599165
I am so excited to welcome you all to our NVLA community. I promise to work with our families to create an educational environment that is successful for ALL students. I will be upfront and say that NVLA will experience some challenges during the early stages of this school year due to our substantial enrollment increase. However, we have an extremely talented staff, and we will ensure all of our students are set on a path to educational success.
