NVLA Online Program Expectations

NVLA’s K-12 distance education programs use a unique combination of synchronous (live session) and asynchronous (independent) learning. Students have 24/7 access to their Canvas courses and to playbacks of their live sessions, providing flexibility in their day-to-day schedules.

All students, regardless of grade level, are expected to:

    • Actively participate in every class via live sessions or course discussion boards
    • Adhere to curriculum due dates as students may not be able to complete missing assignments once they are locked
    • Maintain attendance by submitting assignments in every course, attend live sessions, or have 2-way communication (Canvas Inbox, CCSD gmail, Remind, phone) between the student and teacher regarding progress in course.

Below is an overview of each program, please click on the appropriate school heading to be directed to their respective pages for more detailed information.

Students can enroll in either our AM or PM program. Both provide live sessions with their teachers and independent learning with their learning coach.

Learning Coach: an adult that is available to the student every day during school hours, whether they are in live sessions or working independently.

AM Program: School hours are 8:00am - 2:40pm. Students will participate in live sessions throughout the school day on 3 assigned days with their teacher. Students are then expected to work independently, with their learning coach, the remaining 2 days.

PM Program: School hours are 12:30pm - 7:00pm. Students will participate in live sessions with their teachers from 4:00pm - 7:00pm Monday - Thursday. Students are then expected to work independently, with their learning coach, from 12:30pm - 4:00pm Monday - Thursday and ALL day on Friday.

Students are provided 3 live sessions (synchronous) per course, per week as scheduled by their teachers. It is highly encouraged for students to calendar all live sessions and then build their schedule to ensure they are working in all courses daily. The expectation is to be working in each course for a minimum of 1 hour per school day. When not attending a live session, students are required to be independently (asynchronous) working through the modules.

All 6th-12th grade students will have a full course load of a minimum 6 classes.

Some exceptions may apply and can be determined with your counselor.
